This blog was set up several months ago, and it has taken me this long to write on this subject. I must say I was too ambitious. I wanted to report of my progress in learning to play all of Bach's little preludes and fugues for the piano. I wanted to do a prelude and fugue a month--it would take me over a year to do them all--and record my progress here. This, I had hoped, would inspire me to do more and, with luck, come in contact with other amateur musicians for mutual support. I got the idea from watching the movie "Julia and Julie," the story of an amateur cook who decided to do all the recipes, one after the other, in Julia Child's famous French cookbook. Julie recorded her efforts in a blog, which reached a wide group of people.
I haven't given up, however; I am starting with a project much less ambitious, but more than challenging enough for me. I will go through, about one a month, Bach's 12 short preludes and six short preludes--many of these preludes are from the little preludes and fugues collection. I will be using the Alfred Masterwork Edition of Bach, this one entitled "Eighteen Short Preludes for the Piano."
This gives me a chance to discuss my passion for music, my struggle for technical proficiency and a lot of other things. I will make an entry about once a week. My next blog entry will be a little biographical introduction. Perhaps I can eventually correspond with others who "suffer"--thank God! from musicophilia.
